Nunca me habían preguntado tanto por Menorca como este año. Ya sabes: dónde comer y dónde dormir. Sobre todo de cara a un verano en el que muchos parecen (re)descubrir paraísos más bien cercanos. Lo celebro.
Ese interés por Menorca, mi balear favorita, me despierta sentimientos encontrados. Básicamente porque no quiero que deje de ser la que es. O como es; tan suya. Naturalísima, caleidoscópica y gozosa especialmente en calma.
Su estilo «poc a poc» es anterior a la pandemia, pero se erige ahora como el más apropiado para una mejor calidad de vida.
Las aperturas de este año se han tomado su tiempo para estrenarse cuando las condiciones fueran las mejores en la isla, la primera en alcanzar la fase de «plena normalidad» en España.
Junto a las novedades de este 2021 vuelven también emblemáticos lugares que no deberías pasar por alto.
Hoteles
La Menorca más nostálgica renace en hoteles recuperados con tiento y ganas. Como el boutique Can Alberti de Mahón, que por fin luce como tendría que haber lucido siempre. Distinguido, acogedor y luminoso incluso en su sótano -¡visítalo bajo reserva previa!-.
Con vestigios y mobiliario de época, obras de arte contemporáneo, y detalles que lo diferencian del resto en su estilo.
Adorarás el momento desayuno en su bonito patio interior, así como el atardecer en su terrado con vistas. También los ratos que te dedicarás ti mismo en sus habitaciones sin TV.
Otro hotel que está en boca de todos este verano es el Cristine Bedford, la particular ‘casa de invitados’ de Daniel Entrecanales y su socia, Cristina Lozano.
Con interiorismo de Lorenzo Castillo, conciencia sostenible -no verás plástico en todo el establecimiento- y gastronomía de Ses Forquilles, el hotel mahonés propone estancias cozy incluso en los espacios comunes.
Si éstos no están muy concurridos -recuerda que el restaurante recibe también a quienes no están aquí alojados-, podrás conseguirlo.
Cerca de Sant Lluís revive este verano el Son Granot, que goza de un entorno natural privilegiado. De ahí que la propiedad saque partido a las brasas y el copeo al aire libre junto con música en directo y gastroneta propia.
De toda la teca se encarga Richard Tejada bajo su marca Alma Salada. Te sonará porque suyo era el Can Bernat des Grau.
Ponte en sus manos para disfrutar del mejor producto fresco, de un interminable listado de arroces -su especialidad-, y postres caseros tan geniales como su lemon pie.
Restaurantes
Godai. Se autodenomina “el primer japo-menorquín” y a día de hoy es el mejor restaurante asiático de la isla.
Ubicado en el hotel Suites El Lago, al sur de Ciutadella, firma su carta el chef Juan Mármol, una estrella Michelin en Yugo the Bunker. Te hablamos del mismo en otro post de hace ahora seis años.
El menú degustación es un derroche de pescados crudos y marisco, aderezados lo justo para notar el particularísimo trazo de Mármol.
Una experiencia de casi 3h de cena -y sólo cenas- con bocados que incluyen producto autóctono como la ternera menorquina.
Pez Limón. Confío en que esta «gastroteca» de Ciutadella acabe expresando todo el talento de la joven pareja propietaria. Bregada en la alta cocina que desarrollan chefs de la talla de Eneko Atxa y Ricard Camarena, en Menorca su apuesta es más bien casual.
Sugerente tapeo que coquetea con sus raíces sin desmerecer tampoco la cultura gastronómica local. Pequeña cocina vista para un local espacioso, atento servicio y buenas intenciones.
Arlette. Es el «bistró mediterráneo» ideado por el chef Dani Molero, ex Cocina Torres del que hablan bien incluso cuantos lo tuvieron como jefe.
En su local de Mahón expone ahora una larguísima lista de propuestas en pizarra donde el producto local salta a la vista. Cremas frías, frituras, recetas clásicas y cuidados postres son sus principales bazas.
Sa Punta. Con vistas a Cales Fonts, uno de los enclaves más bonitos de la isla, se distingue por sus platos de producto bio, sus arroces de estilo valenciano, y sus generosas raciones.
Si te gustan los restaurantes panorámicos y relativamente tranquilos, éste es tu sitio.
En Caragol. Qué mejor nombre para instalarse en Menorca…
Lleno ya hasta el 15 de agosto para sus servicios de comida y cena, este restaurante de Sant Lluís apuesta por una carta de corte insular con tablas de embutidos y quesos menorquines, ensaladas de temporada y arroces para un mínimo de 2 personas.
Hay también guiños a Andalucía y Galicia en sus elaboraciones caseras.
Santa Marianna. Este agroturismo de Alaior no es nuevo, pero sí su propuesta gastronómica. La dirige José María Borrás, chef menorquín formado en la Hofmann que ya imprime su sello a la casa. Con un apego innegable a su tierra, impecable técnica y aspiraciones bien altas.
Chiringuito
El de los Bucaneros es probablemente el establecimiento en plena playa con más encanto de la isla. Por su apariencia de refugio -suya es la foto de portada-, su localización privilegiada y su relación calidad precio, encontrarás pocos reductos como éste en torno a Binibeca.
Comer con los pies literalmente en el agua es posible en una de las dos mesas que dan la espalda a la cocina. Para ello, o llegas de los primeros o comes casi a la hora de la merienda.
Cantina
Inaugurada cual oasis hace apenas unos días en la Isla del Rey -accesible en ferry desde Mahón- permite la degustación de productos típicos de Menorca, seleccionados por la familia Anglés (Binifadet) junto a su asesor gastronómico, el gran Isma Alonso.
La intención del magnífico complejo isleño pasa por favorecer una escapada cultural en toda regla donde la gastronomía tiene obviamente también cabida.
Bar
La propiedad de Binifadet está también detrás de la recuperación del mítico American Bar de Mahón., que tenía previsto abrir el pasado julio y al final lo hará el mes que viene. Una demora que se justifica por la voluntad manifiesta de conservar la esencia del local de finales de los 60.
Una suerte para Menorca que haya caído en manos de quienes procuran lo mejor para la actividad económica de la isla, tal y como ha demostrado la familia Anglés a lo largo de sus distintos proyectos.
Pese a que el ocio nocturno aún está limitado a unas determinadas horas, saca tiempo para tomarte aquí un aperitivo o una copa en cuanto abra.
